BuildUP

Male bashing is pervasive in this country.

Teenage girls bond by slamming boys. We grow up and we can find ourselves bonding with other women by bashing our husbands. Are you be guilty of this marriage devastator?  Have you participated in a conversation that included any of the following?

"It's like I am raising 4 children."

"He never cleans up after himself."

" You will never guess what ________ (insert husband's name) did yesterday!"

"Men. Can't life with them and can't live without them."

Women commiserate at the nail salon, during PTA meetings, and over lunch. We post our frustrations on Facebook and Instagram. We throw our husbands under the bus smug in our delusion of superiority. We replace love and loyalty with pride and self aggrandizement. If we are not careful, our constant bashing can convince us that we are right and he is wrong. We are smart and he is not. We are good and he is bad.

"Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right."
Ezra Taft Benson

What is right, is our commitment to BuildUP our husbands. As we chat with our friends and family, as we post and comment, we make a choice to be loyal or disloyal, to focus on the good or the difficult, to BuildUP or tear-down. We should be his biggest supporter, his cheerleader, his champion.

On my 50th birthday my husband posted the following on Facebook:

"She turns 50 today. My medical training leads me to conclude that somebody, God, created the amazing human body. That he could put so much intelligence, compassion, wit, and beauty into one is astounding to me. Leading me to her is no less astounding. I met her father, Eb Davis, on a tiny island in the South Pacific almost 30 years ago. He invited me to his house after I returned to America. She took my breath away. She still does."

You can imagine how loved I felt. I felt a great desire to do better and be better because of this man who sees the best in me, a man who is always willing to build me up. I am committed to doing the same for him, every single day!
